A Mindful and Integrated Approach to Mental Health
Lori Roe Counselling
Are you seeking to make sense of an event? To challenge or manage your own thoughts or feelings, or live with the decisions or actions of those around you?
I’m an experienced counsellor who can help you explore your fears and anxieties without feeling judged. I will help you understand present patterns of thinking and behaving, and identify those patterns which may be unhelpful, and where they originated. We can examine difficulties in making and keeping relationships and evaluate assumptions and beliefs.
Counselling cannot undo events or change existing outcomes, but it can enable you to decide how you want to think, feel or move on.
Welcome
Get On Track To Live The Life You Want
I'm a Registered Social Worker with a Master’s degree and a clinical specialty. I've been working for almost 30 years in the areas of child abuse, mental health, fertility, and collaborative partnerships in the mental health field. I've had the opportunity to work with children, youth, adults, families, and mental health professionals. I am a recognized leader in offering support and supervision of mental health professionals within their clinical roles. I've been involved in multiple city, provincial, national, and international collaborations supporting mental health, mental illness, and reduction of stigma. My experience & dedication allows me to offer effective, individualized, and supportive care.
I take a client-centered approach and work to support individuals to learn, grow and adapt based on both their past and current life experiences. I use an integrated approach, utilizing aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative, Trauma-Informed, and Solution Focused Therapy, among others.
Counselling can feel intimidating and scary to those who are considering it for the first time. I offer an open, supportive environment that ensures confidentiality and informed treatment. My goal is to assist and guide you to better understand your challenges, overcome barriers, and process past experiences in meaningful ways to you. I will work with you to manage your anxiety, depression, life stressors, peer relationships, self-esteem issues, life changes, and emotional regulation; whatever is your most pressing concern. I take a personalized approach; what this means is that you will decide what to explore and at what pace.
Thought-Based Integrated Approach
How Counselling Works
I offer a variety of counselling services that will nurture your spirit, help you overcome personal challenges, and allow you to achieve your individual life goals. I cater to each of my client’s personal needs in order to unlock their full potential. Contact me to start your proactive journey today.
I work in a very client-centered way; what this means is that you will decide what you want to discuss, and how best to proceed. Some people like to work in directed ways using models or theories, others favour creative approaches.
If you have not had counselling before, the thought of talking about things that might be highly sensitive and personal can feel overwhelming. I would like to assure you that we will always work at your pace and in a way that suits you. You will retain ultimate control at all times.
Research has shown that one of the biggest predictors of successful outcomes in counselling is that the client (you) believes that they could build a sense of trust and connection with their counsellor.
In order to answer any initial queries that you may have, I offer a free 20-minute telephone introductory consultation.
If you decide we are a good match and want to proceed, we would arrange to meet for the first session, this can also be referred to as the assessment session. During this session, we will explore your expectations and a little of the background as to what has brought you to counselling. This session also allows you to get a sense of me, and to share any questions or concerns that you may have and consider: Am I someone you feel, you could build a trusting relationship with?
How many sessions you might have or need, is up to you. However, it is good practice every sixth session or so, to review what is working and what is not. We will reflect upon the direction of the work and question, is it going where you want?
On occasion, referral to other professionals may be required due to specific issues outside of my skills set. A referral would only be made with your consent.
